We believe that all living beings are connected and humans are part of nature not separate from it. We think that all the spiritual traditions of the world have validity and offer wisdom we can use in our lives on earth.

We think modern human society, dominated by what some call the “Industrial Growth Society,” is headed for disaster. As the dominate species on earth, we’ve done a poor job of taking care of our home. The high-consumption, fast-paced, soul-shriveling lifestyles led by most people in the “developed” world are totally unsustainable. We are rapidly gobbling up and polluting the limited resources of the planet with little regard for future generations of humans let alone the less fortunate peoples of the globe and non-human species.

Despite this gloomy prediction for humanity and the earth, we remain optimistic that a change of course is possible. A sustainable world is still achievable if we wake up soon. There are many promising individual examples, environmentally sound technologies and model communities that, if implemented on a larger scale, could inspire a rapid re-direction of the human journey. Author Joanna Macy calls it The Great Turning – an unprecedented opportunity to change the course of human history to a sustainable and equitable society. Best of all, in doing so we will lead happier and more meaningful lives.
