Along
with wife Jacque Blix, David Heitmiller has been on the simplicity
path since 1991. By following the program in the book
Your Money or Your Life
by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin and connecting with a Voluntary
Simplicity study circle, they transformed their life. David
and Jacque declared a self-defined state of financial independence
in January 1994 when David kissed the corporate world goodbye
at age 48. Their book, Getting
a Life was published in 1997 and tells their
story along with the stories of 47 others across the country
who have implemented the Your Money or Your Life
program.
From
1997 through 2002,
David
and Jacque continued to speak and write about Simple Living
and the Your Money or Your Life program in a variety
of forums and workshops. In 2002 and 2003 David organized
and hosted study groups using the Northwest
Earth Institute (NWEI) study guides on Voluntary
Simplicity, Choices for Sustainable Living, Deep Ecology,
Discovering a Sense of Place and Globalization and
It's Critics. He has also mentored several Your Money
or Your Life study groups and is the primary content
provider for this web site. Recognizing a need to generate
some additional income to pay for rapidly increasing health
insurance premiums, David started Heitmiller Handyman
Service in January 2004 (see March
2004 News for more information.)
In
addition to his handyman and simplicity related work, David
is an avid bicyclist, jazz aficionado, yoga practitioner,
gardener and do-it-yourself er. He currently serves as technology
manager and handyman for the Interfaith
Community Church.
