A
New Book Review by Jacqueline
Blix (Nov. 2005)
Nothing
Left Over: A Plain and Simple Life by
Toinette Lippe, Jeremy Tarcher/Penguin, 2002.
I thoroughly enjoyed Lippe’s no-nonsense observations
on how live a life supported by her own experience and amplified
by wisdom from sources that range from Alan Watts to the Dahli
Lama. Born in England, LIppe came to the United States to
work in publishing and in 1989 founded Bell Tower, publishing
books that deal with spirituality.
This
book can be re-read with enjoyment as well as picked up for
a quick hit of inspiration. Her closing comment summarizes
what she explores in depth in the book:
“This
started out as a book on how to live a simple life. What I
discovered as I examined the nature of simplicity is that
it all depends on integrity and impeccability. If you focus
on these two qualities your life simplifies itself.”
